I'm happy that Garmin is supporting the Mac but it wouldn't take much more effort to be clear about what these packages contain and what is going to be updated. Like I said in my previous comment for version 3.0.1, it is very poor practice to not identify in the installer description that it will be updating or downgrading applications other than BaseCamp. MapManager and MapInstall updates were released quite recently and listed on MacUpdate as separate updates but in fact both listings point to the same download/file which installs both applications, again, without indicating what version is being installed. It's very confusing the way Garmin is packaging updates. This should not even be an issue though because the installer should be smart enough not to downgrade applications to older versions. Basecamp for mac 10.7.5 install#When you do a custom install it does show that it will be "upgrading" MapManager and MapInstall applications but it does not indicate to what version which would allow you to unselect those applications if you already have a newer version installed to prevent an unintended downgrade. This version upgrades MapManager to version 2.1.3.1beta. If I were to rate this for a windows device it would be 2 stars. I gave this a 4 because of the difficulty in finding addresses. Basecamp for mac 10.7.5 update#The trip is not complete but I will update what I find using the MAC. Even still, I am planning a trip to Italy and so far it has been very smooth. I recently loaded the program onto my older MAC (I had to upgrade the OS to make it work) and I am here to say, WHAT a DIFFERENCE. We set one with the hotels/B&B's and the other with the entire itinerary. We always bring two devices just in case. To date and the maps were always correct and led us exactly to where we needed to be. We have planned trips to Ireland, Germany, England, Scotland using BaseCamp. ![]() ![]() When the boat dives below its rated depth, rivets come loose like rifle bullets. During the cat-and-mouse chases, we can hear the sonar pings bouncing off the U-boat's hull. During the destroyer attacks, the boat rocks with explosions and reverberates with desperate cries and commands. Long, involved shots are constructed with meticulous detail when a sailor races toward the torpedo room, the reactions from the other men seem exactly right. ![]() All of the light sources are made to seem visible (when the lights fail, flashlight beams dance in the darkness). The film is constructed mostly out of closeups and cramped two- and three-shots. Wolfgang Petersen's direction is an exercise in pure craftsmanship. The German filmmakers regard their subject dispassionately it is a record of the way things were. ![]() One cannot easily imagine a Hollywood film in which American submariners are shown allowing drowning men to die. That scene supplies another example of why it is effective that "Das Boot'' is a German sub. Somehow it is easier when the targets are seen through periscope sights, and the cries of victims cannot be heard. But in war, it is certainly not practical for a submarine to take prisoners. It is against the instinct of every sailor to let another sailor drown in the sea. Only one sentence in the ship's log ("assumed no men were on board'') gives a hint. What does he think of having let the victims drown? He does not say. The captain orders his boat to reverse at half speed, to keep it away from them. They swim toward the U-boat, their pitiful cries for help carrying clearly across the water. "Why haven't they been rescued?'' Drowning sailors can clearly be seen in the flames from the tanker. ![]() As the ship explodes, the captain is startled to see men leaping from its deck: "What are they doing still on board?'' he shouts. Having finally outlasted the destroyers, the sub surfaces to administer a coup de grace-a final torpedo to a burning tanker. Then comes the episode that was endlessly discussed when the film came out in 1981. The chase is conducted by sound, the crew whispering beneath the deadly hunters above. And then they endure a long and thorough counterattack, during which destroyers criss-cross the area, dropping depth charges. We share the experience of the hunt they drift below the surface, waiting for the explosions that signal hits. The centerpiece of the film is an attack on an Allied convoy the U-boat torpedoes three ships. The addition of this character is useful, because it gives the captain a reason to explain things that might otherwise go unsaid. Played by Herbert Groenemeyer, he probably represents Lothar-Gunther Buchheim, whose novel was based on these wartime events. Dasboot soccer movie#He is not a Nazi, and the movie makes that clear in an early scene where he ridicules Goering and other leaders for their "brilliant strategy.'' For this mission (an assignment to torpedo Allied shipping in the North Atlantic), a journalist has been assigned to join the crew. Experienced, steady, he's capable of shouting "I demand proper reports!'' even as the boat seems to be breaking up. The boat's captain ( Jurgen Prochnow) is the rock the others depend on. There are long sequences here-especially when the boat is sinking out of control-when we feel trapped in the same time and space as the desperate crew. There is a brief opening sequence in which the boat puts out to sea from a French base, and a refueling sequence near the end, but all the other scenes are shot inside the cramped sub, or on the bridge.Īnd it's not shot in tidy setups, either the cinematographer, Jost Vacano, hurtles his camera through the boat from one end to the other, plunging through cramped openings, hurdling obstacles on the deck, ducking under hammocks and swinging light fixtures. Although we become familiar with several of the characters, it is not their story, really, but the story of a single U-boat mission, from beginning to end. The film is like a documentary in its impact. This 1997 release of Wolfgang Petersen's director's cut, is not a minor readjustment but a substantially longer film, running 210 minutes. When "Das Boot'' was first released in the United States, it ran 145 minutes and won huge audiences and no less than six Oscar nominations-unheard of for a foreign film. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some states allow wage garnishment, while others do not. Microsoft Office Lens is another one of those multipurpose scanner apps, but it has a dedicated mode just for business cards, so it sets itself apart from other apps like SwiftScan. Microsoft Lens Screens (Image credit: Microsoft Corporation) But it's a great overall scanner app that should be on every device for plenty of other reasons. The only issue is that since SwiftScan is not a dedicated business card app, contacts from business cards aren't automatically saved - you'll need to do a bit of legwork yourself. SwiftScan integrates with a large selection of third-party cloud services, so all of your scans can be automatically uploaded to the service of your choosing. Just hold it over the document or business card and SwiftScan automatically detects what you're trying to scan, giving you hints like "Move closer" or "Don't move" when it is capturing the document.įor business cards, SwiftScan uses OCR to extract text for you, and then you can copy it to your device's clipboard to import the data or use it to search. I've personally used SwiftScan for years, and it's fast with getting the camera up and ready for scanning what you need. SwiftScan, formerly known as Scanbot, is probably best known as an app that scans documents you want digital copies of, but it's fairly versatile and also works great for business cards. So, if you don’t know this before signing up for Elucidat, and eventually want to make the switch to a different authoring tool, you’ll need to maintain an Elucidat subscription to keep those courses live because they’ll always require Elucidat’s backend functionality. It’s just the way Elucidat was built, sort of like a hybrid between an eLearning development tool and an LMS. When a course is finished in Elucidat, its content has to be linked to and hosted on Elucidat servers-meaning the content can never leave Elucidat. eLearning content made within Rise is LMS-ready upon export. Rise components look better regardless of screen size, and you don’t need to do any extra work for that to happen.Īnother one of Elucidat’s weaknesses is its limited hosting format. Those tweener moments in Elucidat can be a little awkward to look at. Elucidat’s components are only adjustable at specific breakpoints, set by the user, with the content scaling in between those breakpoints to fit. Overall, it’s easier to create a better looking course with less effort (read: by saving time) using Articulate Storyline. Articulate Storyline’s UI is more intuitive, especially for users familiar with Microsoft Office as it incorporates similar features. ![]() Not to mention the learning curve to do all of this in Storyline is less steep compared to Captivate because of its UI. A user then has the option to alter the appearance of that object and its state with custom design. For example, Storyline’s button object has various states (active, disabled, hover, etc.) with actions already tied to them when it’s dropped into a course. It’s not that objects in Storyline come designed in the most aesthetically-pleasing and modern ways for learning designers, rather that those users have the flexibility to take objects in Storyline that are blank canvases and apply whatever design they want to create beautiful eLearning content. In the past, Captivate has been a clunky eLearning development tool for us to navigate-and, to be honest, looks really outdated compared to Storyline. The widgeted actions in Storyline make it really easy to create complex and engaging interactions without needing to understand any programming languages. In our experience, Articulate eLearning development tools outperform Captivate when it comes to UI and ease of use for course-building, especially for creating custom interactions. ![]() It’s like using a rubber mallet to hammer a nail in a wall, when you could just use… well, a hammer.
